JoAnn Werning is the Finance Director for St. Mary’s Native Corporation. She leads the company’s finance and accounting division and is responsible for the successful operation of SMNC accounting department. JoAnn and her team are responsible for overseeing all accounting activities, financial planning and management reporting for all financial-related activities for the company.

Prior to assuming the role at SMNC and Family of companies, JoAnn spent much of her career in the oil and gas industry. As an accounting manager for a Regional ANC she acquired capabilities in management, project accounting, bidding and proposals, and budgeting and variance reporting.

JoAnn graduated from Alakanuk High School and earned her BS in Business Administration in Management from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks and her MS in Accounting from the University of Phoenix online.

Her extracurricular activities include quilting, baking, and poster board creations for all occasions. She enjoys creating and sewing performance costumes for her daughter’s competitions in dance and baton. JoAnn and her husband have 2 daughters and 2 dogs and love to spend time camping and traveling.
